They say the first step to solving a problem is recognizing you have one. How do you know you have a weight problem? Start by checking your body mass index (BMI).

BMI is a single number which expresses a relationship between height, body surface area and body weight. The BMI is very useful because it correlates very closely to your body fat percentage which is much more difficult to measure.

If your BMI is not a healthy number and weight loss is now at the top of your to do list, make certain you get the green light from your doctor.
